Explorer showing "red" light for track. No power to track. I don't know why. Track is very small loop and very clean. No obstructions. Anyone have an idea what's going on? Using power supply that came with unit.

That's actually the proper behavior.
Put an engine on and you should get a purple.
The red light caused some alarm for early adopters - not sure if they changed the lights behavior in the newer firmware.
But - that's normal
Engine on track and still no power to the track. App telling me "No MTH System Found". Switch on Explorer set to MTH Network.
Hello Charles,
Make sure the switch on the Explorer is set to "MTH". Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the "MTH" WiFi network that is created by the Explorer.
Close and relaunch the app and try again. The Explorer will automatically apply power to the track when it receives a command to send to the engine. A "READ" should power up the track.
something else to note(if using) on a samsung s4 mobile phone you have to turn off mobile data or you get internet not available. maybe the case for other phones also??.
Charles,
The explorer will not send power to the track until the app finds the explorer by pressing Refresh on the Engine Control Screen. If you're getting "No MTH System Found", the app doesn't see the explorer.
It's most likely that one of the following is the culprit:
- The smart device isn't connected to the explorer's internal WiFi network.
- The app needs to be told that it's being used with a DCS Explorer. Navigate to More..., App Settings and check the DCS Explorer box.
Roving Sign,
Put an engine on and you should get a purple.
That's incorrect.
First, the explorer has no "purple" LED.
Second, the WIU has the purple TIU LED that comes on as soon as the WIU is fully powered up and connected to a TIU.

MTH RD posted:We initially decided to leave track power off when the Explorer is powered up since new users may not understand the watchdog issue and setting an engine on the track with power would start the engine in conventional. The idea is that whenever a command is sent to the Explorer, power is applied to the track and the LED turns purple.
Roving Sign,
As I stated, only a WIU has a purple LED. The explorer has a red LED that can become purple.
However, no-one can look for a purple LED until there is track power, which is why it's inappropriate to talk about a purple LED in this thread's context. The OP cannot get power to the track so cannot see a purple LED. Referencing one confuses the issue.

Oh Come on Barry - why are you even bringing the WIU into this?!
I just referenced the state of the light in question - not sure how anything I said is wrong - or misleading.
The light turns purple when you have track power.
Got it to work! Thanks to everyone. Once I "reconnected" my smart phone to the WiFi network, all systems go. What a great product! Can't wait to upgrade in the future.
Charles,
Can't wait to upgrade in the future.
I'm happy to hear that you got the explorer working. However, as far as upgrading is concerned, don't spend any money upgrading the app if you plan to continue to use it with the DCS Explorer. Regardless of the version of the DCS App. you won't get any additional features or functions out of the DCS Explorer.
However, if you plan to move to a WIU/TIU combination in the future, then when you do so I would heartily encourage you to upgrade to the Premium version of the DCS App.
In the mean time you can learn all about the full capabilities of the DCS Explorer, the WIU and the Premium version of the DCS App in The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition.
