Hi everyone,

I will be visiting the New York City area from Dec 20 to January 9th. Any good train recommendations? I want to see the Jerni collection at the NY Historical Society, the TMB open house, and the Wayne and Greenberg shows in NJ?

Any and all suggestions welcome and greatly appreciated.

Thank you and all the best,

Miketg

The NJ HiRailers are having their Holiday open house on Dec 20.  It is listed in the announcements section on the forum.  If you just want to stop by and run trains just shoot me an email and I will set it up.  We are located in PAterson NJ  About 15 minutes over the George Washington bridge

Another cool thing to see while your here is the Holiday train show at the Bronx Botanical gardens.  If you look at Skips thread about Christmas walking tour there are tons of things to see in Manhattan at that time

Miketg;

As audi suggests, Grand Central is a must. Just off the main hall is a satellite of the NYC Transit Museum (the main branch is a former subway station in Brooklyn - if you are in to subways, worth the trip). They have a very nice train layout set up for the holidays, as well as some  Lionel pieces from the museum's collection. Before I retired three years ago, I passed through GCT several times a week and they used to have a self guided walking tour and occasional guided tours - check out their website. I'd recommend avoiding 7:00 - 9:00 AM and 5:00 - 7:00 PM on weekdays... NYC commuters are always in a hurry!!!
