As another part of my life with trains, I operate 1 1/2 inch Scale trains that are 7.5 inch Gauge track width. Another project my Dad and I want to work on is a 2 1/2 inch Scale Denver and Rio Grande Galloping Goose #7. The goose would be a narrow Gauge loco, (yes there is narrow Gauge models in live steam that are bigger than the little aster G Scale locos), I chose # 7 because it would be easier to build and someone has built #6 and #2, so I figure 7 would be easier than 3,4, and 5. A 7 was built but it was made out of wood and it was smaller

Does anyone know any Galloping Goose Historical societies, or the DRG/DRGW historical society? I have a friend who is a operator at the Colorado State Railroad Museum who I will be asking if they have any archival pictures or specifications because the museum has # 7 in operation. I will also ask for pictures from him.

Thanks

Tim - in researching Galloping Goose #7 look under the Rio Grande Southern (RGS) railroad.  The RGS built and operated the galloping Geese fleet - not the DRG&W.  The RGS connected with DRG&W in the north at Ridgway, CO, and in the south at Durango.  For dozens of Galloping Goose color photos see any one of the 12 volumes in The RGS Story hardcover books published by Sundance Publications. The RGS and its geese make for interesting modelling.

I don't have a video of this one, sorry.  It doesn't sound exactly like the real audio for a goose, as I had a limited number of sound sets to choose from.  I chose a normally aspirated locomotive sound file, it sounds pretty good in the unit, but obviously not prototypical.  It turns heads at the modular shows, most non-train people never heard of a Gallopin' Goose.   I did add passengers in the cab since I took the picture, I figured I might as well have it in revenue service.

Here's a YouTube Link to some shots of the real thing: https://www.youtube.com/result...ry=galloping+goose+5

The audio for the first MTH Goose was recorded from the real thing in Colorado . That is what I was told by the people who run the museum in Dolores ,Colorado the home of #5 .

I've spent countless hours running the Garden Railway at the Colorado Railroad Museum watching the real Goose circle me all day.

It sounds pretty close to me!

The later versions I can't speak for . When I heard they stop in Chicago ,I didn't want one.

The Goose runs most weekends if anyone wants to hear it for yourself.
