I have my roadbed stained and base paint on the layout surface and I am ready to start the ground cover, bushes, grass, etc.  The setting is Southwest Texan desert and from the "real" photo's I have found it depends on time of year as far as colors, greenery, etc.  I really want it to look like desert so I don't want too much green stuff so I am asking for ideas from those members who might have some ideas for me.  Thank you

I knew I could find some help here, great ideas, video and links.

wsdimenna - I contacted Arizona rock and minerals and they really helped me with what I need as far as materials and how to apply their products.  I still have some real Texas dirt and rocks off the Katy line and will incorporate these with the materials from Arizona rock and minerals.  I will also purchase ground cover items from Scenic Express and Woodland Scenics to blend into my desert project.

Laidoffsick - great video and shows me how to get a really good base down.  I think my ground cover blend will be a little different, attempting to match the color in the Southwest Texan desert where there is a little more "red" rock and earth.  Thanks for posting this video for me, it was super.

I really appreciate all your help and will post "peeks" of how things are going down in the future.  Believe me, I can use all the help I can get.......being old and grumpy.
