Lionel's recent models of the SD40 have really warmed up to me, more so than I initially thought they would.
It's become very clear - since many forum members have already pointed it out - that the new SD40's are much better looking and detailed than Lionel's (ironically) earlier released SD40-2's. The trucks are better positioned, the pilots look much better and they don't ride high, and the body doesn't look as shifted towards the front.
However, one of my favorite things about the SD40-2's was the operating ditch lights on the fronts, which has been a favorite of anything for me in terms of diesels. The fact that the new SD40's don't have them is understandable, but sort of lack the 'OOMPH' factor in lighting the -2 versions had.
It's more likely than not Lionel didn't include them because the vast majority didn't originally come with them, but I still must ask, did any of the SD40's in any moment of their lives have ditch lights?
I've been considering purchasing one since I love the SD40 family in general, and may decide to add ditch lights on my own, and would like to know from the more knowledgeable railroaders if any got any or not.
