Well, I'm not much of a "diesel guy", and I sure as heck don't have any "G Gauge" stuff, but I do have, and operate, the following:

 

1) EMD = A-B-B-A SP Black Widow set , a Rock Island GP7, and an A-A pair of E7A units. for CB&Q

 

2) ALCO = a pair of C&O high nose "alligator" 6-axle units.

 

3) GE = a UP "Big Blow" three section 8500HP gas turbine.

 

I am currently waiting for MTH to offer their re-tooled FM Train Master in the FM Demonstrator styling, in 2-Rail, with fixed pilots and scale wheels.

Like Hot Water I'm not much of diesel guy, but to model consists that are representative of the late Forties-early Fifties they have to show up. That said, my minor collection of stinkpots has at least one unit/set from all the manufacturers.

I have three Protosound AS616 units (sorry, Matt, but I can give warning for the other diseasel operators at AGHR when I bring them down) that I intend to make honest through conversion to TMCC. OT, but is there a way that I can keep the MTH Baldwin diesel sound while adding ERR's sound (I was told that I can turn off/down the engine sound on the ERR board while keeping the horn and bell)? Of course, it may be that all that electronic gimcracky won't fit within the space available...

While I can not imagine that my Atlas RS-1 would be a hot item to fence they would have to get past the dogs and a 44....

I would suggest that anyone who posts anything in these forums telling about their layout "could be" a target if and when the toy train market gets really hot

Really?  People listed their locomotives because that was the question/point of the thread.  I've done this before and have never been burglarized.  I guess those people that are that concerned over the actual chances of that happening should get an alarm system.  Like HW said, anyone is welcome to try to burglarize my place.

NW, regarding your security ?, Where is one going to pawn these trains. 2 rail O scale. Where are they going to find buyers without the country knowing one is selling specific pieces. These aren't diamonds, chain saws, and they take up alot of space. And lastly the list of the lookers here is short. A lot of the fun was the winning bids and there is home owners riders.

As soon as the remote went over sixty addresses it seemed it went over seventy the next run. That is with consists added in so it threw me.

 So I fell way short of Matt. I did sell off some of the three rail diesels I had bought and never used. Trying to replace them is tuff to get by the CFO. With Scott selling off engines to pay taxes I'll have to change my mentor to Matt. Should have done it long ago as the layout will be modern era diesels.

I was wondering, is there equal rights for the wives hobbies like a few viking $7k sewing machine and room. I figure i have enough to trade for a decent bass boat or a nice 1940s ride and so our hobby isn't that bad financially. At least we don't crash and burn like some hobbies.

Phil:I was taught that one does not disclose what one has as they are asking for trouble. Everyone seems to forget there have been modelers listing stolen models on forum as this. Most trains are stolen by other modelers. Our hobby shop was broke into a few weeks back, Joe G. of OST had locos stolen. My friend in a weathly area last year had a couple of pieces stolen. As for stand your ground, that does not mean anything when you are not home. Dawgs are easy to deal with, and most security systems can be easily bypassed. When one tells of the guns one has, it is just another reason to break into a home. I do not know of one railroader that has ever recovered his collection.I know of several shows where dealers have had things stolen. Listing your wares is asking for trouble, especially nowadays.

Years ago my wife told me that I could buy whatever I wanted so long as she got the same $$ to spend. Since that immediately doubled the price of anything, it did offer, for a while, a useful constraint.

I keep many (if not most) of my O Scale in a storage unit (this is California...) a place my wife had never visited. One day she did. She took one look at the stacked-up boxes and announced that I owed her big time. Like a long-arm quilting machine. Fortunately, we don't have room for such, unless I give up my train room (hah!).

She did get her coveted little red Mercedes out of the deal, however

Been there/Done that. Got busted re-organizing the store room. She showed up while I had stacks of Atlas four-pack boxes out in the garage. Good thing I had put the locomotives away already.
