Our local streetcar company, strapped for cash, was challenged by the town elites to  improve the appearance of their tracks. They immediately cleverly complied by gluing brick printed velum board onto the streets in the wee hours of the morning despite the crew's continual fumbling with enormous exacto knives and then..somehow.. managed to apply a matte finish before dawn. Cost? $5.00  "Good enough" the foreman said and added, "let them complain about that!" They did.

Hi Mickey

I printed mine on velum which was about the stiffest material that would go through the printer. There are a wealth of materials in the link below and if you navigate through the site(s),there are a lot more. I also built a Walgreens drugstore using their windows etc.  They have a lot of tinplate plans and materials, free.

PS

Here is the store I made from the materials there that I printed. The chimney is an old glue bottle top and the trash can is a recycled wire nut. They also have a link to vintage signs. They recommend spraying the finished building with gloss sealer to give it that tinplate look and for me, it works. Inexpensive fun projects..the paving in front of the store is also sealed velum paper. I used  1/2 of an old can to glue the paper onto it as it is meant to be a sort of false front to a larger piece.
