Hey Folks,

I am thinking of getting one of these, but I have a few questions.

I understand that this runs off of track power.   Can I just run a constant voltage line from my transformer to the unit's hot wire, and run a line from my outside, neutral rail to the unit's neutral wire, to get this thing to work?

Pretty clear that I would have to replace the weak factory smoke unit with an MTH PS-1 smoke unit.  Is this something easy to do?  Or is it rocket science?  :-O

Do you think the PS-1 unit will set off the smoke alarms in my basement???

If the PS-1 unit will be undo-able because of setting off smoke alarms, has anybody tried to use the factory smoke unit to greater effect by sealing off all of the side windows and cracks in the depot with clear plastic, and sealing up all of the holes in the roof except for one hole, where hopefully the smoke would come out with some noticeable force?

Thanks for all replies.

P.S.- Why are the simplest things I want to accomplish in O Gauge so danged hard?!

I can't say I'm familiar with the above mentioned accessory but I have designed a few smoke units in my time.  For a smoke unit to work well it does require an inlet source of air.  Closing off the windows would slow or even stop the smoke unit from working.  If you do get this accessory and find the smoke inadequate we can always go on a quest for a fan driven unit if it will fit.  There are many to choose from.
