Last week I received a brand new Legacy USRA 2-6-6-2, Lionel number 6-85184.  I am using a TMCC Base and controller 6-12911 powered by an MTH Z4000 set at 15 to 16 volts.  The only problem I have found is the rear electro-coupler doesn't open when I press the button on the controller.  I can hear the solenoid energize, and if I put my finger against the coupler, I can feel a slight vibration, but the coupler doesn't try to open.  I compared it to my only other Legacy engine, a GP7, and the solenoid sound and vibration are about the same.  The GP7 couplers operate as they should.

Is there something I can look for that may be causing the couper to bind or not operate?  I don't see an obvious burr or other deformity.  I don't plan to do any switching with this engine, so I probably won't use the feature much, but since it is new, it should work.  Thank you for any suggestions.

Have you tried pulling it open with a piece of rolling stock while energizing it?

I recall having a coupler that wouldn't open right out of the box on the first run Legacy gp7 years ago.

I coaxed it open , put a little graphite lube it in the back so it could reach the locking pin and its worked fine ever since.

This may not work for you, just a thought.
