Hi Oscale members.

This is my first time posting in this forum. So please bare with me. I recently installed a loksound Select L decoder in my Atlas O mp15. The sound file had a choice  of 2 prime movers, one of them with an auto-notch feature.I made a few errors and lost the sound file and  I went on to the ESU site, they have discontinued that file with auto notch feature. I,m now using file #73343 l Select-Diesel-EMD-12cyl-645e FT. which is not as good as old file.I was hoping someone could advise me on how to get old file back.I did phone ESU in the USA and a person said they don't have file anymore. I,d like introduce myself. My name is Dale, I belong to a model railroad club in Victoria BC. I model HO at the club and O gauge 2rail at home where I am presently building a 12 ftx 17inch switching layout. I enjoy reading the posts on your site. thank you for reading mine.

Hi Mike,

Yes I am talking about the full throttle features with drive hold vs auto notching . On a small layout like mine, the auto notching seems perfect for yard switching, as apposed to drivehold having to press function buttons (9 &10)

The original file was #73443 L select. I am now using File #73343 L Select-Diesel-12cly-645E-FT. I am using L project. I phoned Loksound USA and Talked to  a Tech, he said they don't have that particular file anymore as they upgraded to (FT) .I read a post on this site earlier in the year by a fellow named scott, under the title ( Atlas O MP15 loksound upgrade) and he explained the file for MP15 with auto notching features. I did not ask the question on the Yahoo Loksound forum yet.

I'm using HO Selects in 2 Atlas MP15DCs. I recently upgraded to the new Select-Diesel-12cly-645E-FT version as well. It still has the throttle step-related auto notching as before, i.e. the prime mover sound notches up and down at set throttle step intervals. This isn't fully automatic Back-EMF load-related auto notching without touching the throttle, as found in the fully automatic TCS WOWDiesel "prototype mode".  However it does have the same motor load-related "sounds of increased load" when you increase throttle steps as before. And it's dynamic in the sense that it sounds more loaded when more cars are being moved or the throttle is opened faster. The new FT version seems to drop to idle faster and more directly rather than stepping down when you throttle down quickly step 0. That makes it a little more realistic anyway imho.

The new FT files don't seem to have the F9 to notch-up and F10 to notch-down manual notching setup by default (which I never used anyway). Instead it has the new "drive-hold" feature mapped to F10 by default, and there's a new "coast" feature that isn't mapped by default but can be mapped to any function.

I use my MP15s in switching as well and I mapped "coast" to F9. I unmapped drivehold for now. I find that pressing F9 when you feel the prime mover sound should be dropping to idle while coasting, and pressing it again when you want the sound to notch back up, quickly became second nature even when switching in close quarters. I glued a cut-down map pin head into the F9 buttons on my DT402Ds so I can find the coast button without having to look away from the track.

I haven't tried 'drivehold" yet because "coast" seems to do the job for me, perhaps because we O scalers can generate enough load on our motors to alter the sounds without having to induce it with code...

Dale, that's amazing, thanks! I was actually using that file before and never caught on to what the "proto sound" feature really meant. I tried to read about it but never found anything on the ESU sites, or Yahoo groups etc. that could make me understand it. And I couldn't get it to do anything like TCS WOW Prototype in my locos.

As a big fan of TCS "Prototype" for individual switching locos, I wish Loksound would have developed that feature further. To me it seems a lot easier way to make realistic load-related sounds than Full Throttle for switching moves as you say. Let me see if I still have it saved somewhere and I'll stick on Dropbox for you. Was it in the final version before the FT version replaced it?

Also, I just noticed what I think might be a new feature in LokProgrammer 4.5.1: In the "Sound settings" screen there's a section called "Heavy Load and Cost mode" with 2 adjustable settings for each. Perhaps this will enable FT mode to do more load-related sound adjustments without having to press buttons. Might be good if we can't get back to the old file. So much to learn, so little time...

Dale, I checked my archive and it turns out the first MP15DC that I installed had a V4 L not a Select HO. So the file I was using was the V4 L version. I don't seem to have it still, sorry for the false hope above.     I then moved the V4 L over to a P&D F Unit with Pittman motor and switched to the correct 567 sound file, once I realized that HO Selects would work fine with the MP15DCs. So I only have the FT version of the 645E 12 cyl, sorry.

I am going to fiddle with these new "Heavy Load and Cost mode" setting in the FT file and see if I can get close to what you had before.

Hi Pete,

I just received a email from a Rick who emailed me the HO file#73443 containing rime Mover:
CV48=0 EMD 12cyl 645E Non Turbo
CV48=16 EMD 12cyl 645E Non Turbo - PROTO (We have added an additional prime mover that more closely mimics the prototype when engaging notch one.)

I downloaded the file to my Atlas O mp15 yesterday and it runs & sound great It was an older file before (FT) replaced it. I could email the file to you.

  Thanks all

Hi Dale,

I'm glad you found a way to get the file, and thanks for your kind offer. But based on Matt's comment on the Yahoo! group, I think I'm going to stick with FT, and explore the new Heavy Load and Coast settings once I learn what they do. I asked for help on that from the group so we'll see what that brings...

Pete
