Well I don't know if this is the correct place but here we go. I have an ps3 engine (ES44AC) I was running it then it just stopped. after checking track voltage witch was at 18.3 volts then I check with the remote for track signal and got "engine not on track"I pulled off body because I have read about loose connection and thought I would look and see. I did not see anything any loose wires. I then checked voltage coming from trucks (red and black wires) and only got 1.2 volts then I checked from red to ground rail and got 18.3 volts but when I checked from black to center rail I got 1.2 v then I used a jumper wire from ground rail the black wire it all works fine. so i would say that I have lost my ground from wheel to main board. I would have called MTH but in the past the first thing they ask me is did you check this fourm with Barry so hear I am please help. Barry you are the man can you or some else help. Thanks Henry

I am not Barry, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Near Columbia MD.
Does this have a 2R 3R switch? Did you check wire nuts to ensure all the wires in the nut? Any Black wire off a switch? G

I had no idea that MTH was in such dire straits!
You're in good hands with George (GGG).

I took off wire nuts and checked from there then I went to the screw on the truck. I did not see any 2r 3r switch under cab . I did a ohm check and had .8k ohm resistance from wheel to screw on both trucks. if I knew how to pull truck apart I would check in the gear set. Any help there? Thanks Henry

Barry, I think MTH should put you on pay roll after reading some of your reply's I would say that you do know more that they do. I did get your ebook from MTH and will use it as my needs come up AWESOME book. Thanks Henry
Henry,
You're most welcome!
If you trace the black wire towards the truck you should see a mount screw. Similar for the red and they should be near each other. Check for loose screw. Also some times the wire breaks inside the insulation. So check continuity.
Are the wheels clean on the engine?
Normally to drop the truck you remove the screw located about center with the motor. This allows the motor to come up and the truck is free other than coupler wires and pick up wires. It does give you enough movement to work on the wires.
What is the MTH model #? G

the front truck wire was loose the rear was not. fixed the front truck just by a turn of the screwdriver. The rear truck was still dead so I removed the screw and scraped the coating off so it made a good contact also scraped the screw head I took the front off and did the same. anyone that knows anything about electrical knows that coating on screws or contact points do not work well, now with good connection all is well. I checked and found 2 other trucks that were also dead on others engines. I contacted MTH and they are sending me some screws without any coating on them (like the red wire screws) Thanks for you help GGG
my engines 2/sd70 1/sd60 1/dash8 1/es44ac all rail-king all have less that 300 scale miles
Thanks again Henry
I pull all the coated screws and turn them in a small drill chuck machining the side where the ring tongue connecter seats...DCS commands become much more stable and i notice scale 1mph is smooth where as before there would be stutter. All of this critical to me as i run several multi units.
MTH did have a run of a some engines where the center rail pick up screws were black. The fix is to scrape or replace. Glad it was easy fix. G
After repairing all of my engines they all run Excellent 9-10 signal all around layout (26x16 5 levels) I can run on 2 over switches without any problems before repairs I had to run at 15 to get over switches without a stall. WOW what a difference, I'm glad I went from HO to O now its fun to run them. I was thinking that I made a mistake at one point but now I'm glad I did. ANYONE that reads this I would replace/repair the ground screws right from the get go to prevent any future problems with DCS. Thanks GGG and others for your help
