I have MTH 0-8-0, 20-3236-1, PS2 that I purchased recently from Trainz auction and has run well until this morning.  I had them check it out before shipping it to me.  They replaced the battery with BCR.  When I blew the whistle this morning the engine turned off.  I started it back up with DCS remote, but did the same thing again.  I did an engine reset and the same thing happened again.  I tried it on separate track, but then the engine could no longer be found by DCS remote.  I can hear the engine click when turning on the transformer.  I then tried to run it conventionally and it turned on, but would turn off again if blew the whistle on the transformer.  What could be the issue?  Did I get an engine with a bad board?   I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Ken

There should also be a volume pot that you can turn volume off with for conventional operation.  I have seen this before and it was a bad speaker.  It overloads the 5V circuit that runs the components on the board, which is why you get a shutdown.  I would be careful of repeating this until repaired.  Shorting the audio amp can cause it to fail.   G

Thanks G.  I am going contact Trainz to see if they will help me any way.  If they won't help,  I will send you email.

I returned my engine to Trainz and they repaired it without any charge. I was not sure if they would repair it or not since it was past their 2 week return time, but since I purchased an engine tune-up from them and less than 30 days, they repaired it.   You were right it was a speaker problem so they replaced the speaker.  I got the engine back this past week and it runs good.  Thanks for your help.
