Hi all,

I noticed something odd yesterday. I am currently expanding my layout by adding a third outter track that will accomodate O54 curves. The the other inner two tracks are for O45 and O36. I also added a three track small yard to park my trains perpendicular to the oval tracks. So the layout went from 4X10 to 5X11.  I am using two Z1000 transformers that have been phased together. So my question is my subway sets seem to be going in conventional mode since I hear the engine sound as soon as the TIU and track is powered up. I am using fixed voltage. So since the PS2 are missing the watchdog signal, could that be due to the fact that the layout is larger thus the signal is weaker and thus I need to adjust my wiring to be even throughout the layout. I am still working on that as we speak. I would assume if the signal is weak and not traveling fast enough my trains wont pick up the signal. Is my assumption correct? Before the expanison, my engines would always start out on silent until I started them up from the DCS remote. I understand from reading here that if I can force into DCS command mode by starting them up from remote.

Thanks

If your engines cannot be forced into DCS mode by pressing Start Up, consider the following from The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition:

Another reason why all DCS Remotes may lose control of all PS2 engines is if the wires between a TIU channel and the tracks are reversed. The wire from the red TIU channel output terminal must be connected to the center rail and the wire from the black TIU channel output terminal must be connected to an outside rail. If these wires are reversed anywhere between the TIU's output terminals and the tracks, any PS2 engines on these tracks will only operate in conventional mode, and will not be seen at all by any DCS Remote.

Perhaps during your recent additions to the layout you reversed a Hot and Common wire pair somewhere between the TIU and the tracks.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!
