Gd Morning, I purchased a Legacy SP SD70ACe and down the road I picked up 10 GATX Tank Train cars also. Little did I know of the GATX End of Train car which has a FRED LED device on it. I've been unable to find the End of Train car, with the blinking LED, I've recently seen the Legacy SP Tank Train Set.  I've also found an MTH EOT device, which I tried to mount on a Lionel truck to no avail. My new dilemma is should I purchase the SP Tank Train Set (with great reluctance) or does anyone know of an EOT device which can be put on the GATX Tank Train. All of my appreciation for any info provided, thank you - MARSHELANGELO

I purchased a used set of the GATX tank cars and the first owner had cut all the eot wires off it and also changed the truck (no wire pick up). I did not know that at the time so I ordered all the parts to put the eot back into one of the cars. I was lucky because the one tank car  I picked to fit the electronics into already had the old pcb in it, now I have two eot devices working. I got the parts from Lionel, I f I remember right the only issue was the color of the light housing (where the led goes) was wrong. A little paint fixed that.

Sounds like a nice piece of work John

Are these tank train cars the only Lionel rolling stock that came with an operating EOT device?

I don't have the GATX set to look at, but I believe the end car has some holes to mount the FRED.

It doesn't look like Lionel has the parts you need, the FRED housing or the truck with the power pickups.  I'd just find a FRED enclosure and put a blinking LED into it.  They do still have the PCB that was inside the car...

You may have picked up a car in the wrong box(a non ETD in the ETD car box).

Case in point, shortly after the release of the BNSF Ice Cold Express came out I was buying some of the LCCA's Ice Cold Express reefer cars to add to my set. One of the reefers that I bought came and it had the Ice Cold Smoking reefer from the set in the LCCA reefer box. I contacted the gentleman the sold me it and he told me that he had sent the set back to Lionel. So I just have a car in the wrong box. Come to think of that I may also have that car in my collection. Because after that I went to Lionel's Service Center sale a few years back and I bought 6 of the smoking cars & 6 of the sound cars to the Ice Cold Express set for $30 each and now I recall not ever taking any of them out of the boxes.

And sometimes you may find one on the bay where someone has broken up a set. I picked up a CN GATX Tank Train with the ETD to put with another bunch of CN Tank Train car to make a set of them.

Gemtlemen, I've discovered what my problem is, I purchased my Lionel GATX Tank Train car with excitement over the fact that I finally found the train I needed to discover that the car I purchased is the "A-End of Train Car" not the "B-End of Train Car" that I need, so my quest continues for the "B EOT Car" again.  Thanks for all of your help and concern. - MARSHELANGELO
