I just tried to run my williams FM trainmaster that I had installed ERR cruise and railsounds in a while ago. When I turned track power on, the engine immediately made a loud buzzing sound, so I turned the power off. I took the shell off and didn't see any way that there could have been a short circuit. The cruise board still works fine when the sound board is unplugged, which is confusing because I assumed that a short circuit in one of the boards would fry the whole system. The only major change I've made to the layout since the last time I ran this engine was the addition of DCS. I was wondering if that could have somehow messed up the board, but I have never heard of that happening, and I have been running TMCC and Legacy engines without any issues. Does anyone know what could have caused this or if I can fix the sound board?

DCS didn't kill your sound board.

I'd be looking very closely at wiring or the possibility that the RS Commander is shorting to the frame.  Did you use the plastic board carrier that they ship with them now?  Scott says that the major source of failure of RS Commanders was the pins on the back being longer than the foam tape allowed and a pin shorting to frame ground.  If that happens, it's usually bye-bye RSC.

I'm not aware of the plastic board carrier. I must have bought this before they started using those. I doubt that it's touching the frame because there already was some foam tape on the frame before I did the upgrade. I put some of the foam tape that came with the kit over it and attached the sound board to that, so the pins should be a good distance away from the frame. I'll keep looking at it though.
