@GG1 4877, any idea how the orders are coming along? I have three on pre-order and would love to see them enter production.

Put your Charger order in with 3rd Rail & support the company that plans/hopes to make the item you are looking for! They look great.

The project will be going forward. Where in the current que I'm not quite sure, but they are going into formal design soon which means there is a commitment to do this project.
I need to still make my reservations, but I'm interested in a Phase VI and Phase VII Amtrak version, and I'm really tempted by some of the SC44 offerings.

That’s great to hear! I reserved Phase VI, VII, and the day one anniversary liveries. I appreciate the update.
Like Ron said, get those orders in to Scott (3rd Rail) to support the project and team bringing us these new models!
Still hoping for a Lionel Vision Line Siemens Charger (preferably an ALC-42) and some newly tooled Superliner Cars.

According tp Scott (of 3 RAIL) They hope to get it approved by the end of this year, so probably wont be out until next year. What i'm saying is the "REAL" Engines have been running (Mostly on the east Coast) and MTH or Lionel havent whispered a Hint of releasing one!!!! AMEN

So do the N scalers, with the ALC-42 and SC-44 Chargers, but it all happened in the last two years. Something about a limited licensing agreement by Siemens until recently.
The slow adaptation to O gauge is primarily because of the size of the market for new tooling involving a locomotive that is largely used by one railroad. But 3rd Rail specializes in this kind of thing.

I,m with you!!! I'd buy a Vision Line "CHARGER" Tomorrow !!!

I’m in the NE all I see is Chargers and Acela !!! Still like the AEM 7 though
MTH hasn't done new tooling in roughly a decade at this point. Why would Lionel spend money on tooling for a relatively niche model if 3rd Rail is offering it already?
I have two Amtrak Chargers (one phase VI and one VII) and a Cascades SC44 on order. I have 8 Golden Gate Depot Superliners coming in April. There is plenty of Amtrak coming down the pipeline in O Scale if you know where to look.
I have 2 Chargers on order right now, ACE and Surfliner ( As you might have guessed I'm from California), and I'm debating on a Phase VII Amtrak. I need something to pull my new Superliners and I'm not sure about another Charger or an extra Phase V genesis.
I don't know what Lionel has planned but I do know that a Visionline Charger would be less detailed and much more expensive than the 3rd rail model.
What is the minimum radius on the 3R models? Apologies if I missed it on the website.
Anyone that is hoping Lionel issues one is crazy. If you've never boughten a thing from Scott, you're missing out. I got a Pacific Surfliner and Coaster Unit on order. If Lionel did a VL Charger, that is 1200. While you can get a very nice one from Scott for a fraction of the price.

It hides a bit in the standard features at the top of the page, but 3 rail should be O-72 since there wasn't anything different under the Charger listing.
The other thing to keep in mind is that the 3rd Rail Charger will run with the 3rd Rail Genesis units to replicate what we are seeing on so many Amtrak trains currently.

What sound set would they use in the charger in 3rail? I don't think there is an available ERR sound for one. Would it just be a generic diesel sound?

That is the biggest down side to the 3rd Rail model. The 3 Rail versions will use the Lionel Dash 9 sound set. I might just turn the volume low on mine (the prototypes are very quiet) or if it really bothers me I might look into Bluenami (assuming they have a Cummins QSK96 prime mover sound).

Thank you.
My 3rd Rail MARC Charger is on order! I have the pleasure of riding behind the real ones between Baltimore and DC at least every month or two. Now just need some matching MARC bilevel cars . . .

IMHO you don’t need any engine sound, just a horn and bell. I walk past these every night I commute into the city and also have them race past me walking home. They are whisper quiet. Totally sneak up on you so I wouldn’t sweat the engine sound.
More than the sound, I’d want the light in the open engine compartment as a cool feature. At night it looks very cool.

I really want the Coaster version (along with the Surfliner and Amtrak phase 7) but we need some Bombardier passenger cars to go with it!
