What "protection" is being triggered?  I used to use the TMCC Direct Lockon, and I noticed certainly locomotives would trigger than in normal operation.

Turn smoke off with switch and try again.

I will try.

Try removing the TMCC Direct Lockon and seeing if you still have an issue.  I noticed this triggered for about 10% of my TMCC/Legacy locomotive for no reason that I could see.  I think the circuit is a bit too sensitive.

You can solve false triggering with a non-polarized cap across the track feed, try a 4.7uf 50V non-polarized cap.  I presume you don't run DCS, or you would have discovered the TMCC Direct Lockon kills the DCS signal as well.
