I have ordered parts from Lionel before, and it's been good, but this latest is just amazing.

Last night I ordered about a dozen various service parts for several different engines.

Everything from traction tires to marker lights.

About 20 minutes after ordering I got an order confirmation; about 9:30 PM.

Then just a few minutes ago I received shipping confirmation; at 9:20 AM.

That's less than 12 hours folks to fill and ship a parts order with at least a dozen line items.

I can only assume that the parts order system is heavily if not completely computerized.

Another neat thing is while I was ordering, if I increased the quantity by more than Lionel's stock level, I would get an immediate banner indicating insufficient stock. So you don't have to place an order only to find out later that there is insufficient or no stock.

Kudos to Lionel; the parts ordering system is great! Very user friendly.

Not completely computerized. Between Aug 2011 and this past February I worked at the Lionel Customer Service Center in Canfield, OH doing parts inventory. The parts orders from the previous day are printed out each morning. Then someone has to physically get the individual parts for each order from the thousands of parts bins, put these parts and invoice in a shipping box, attach a shipping label, and put the box in a USPS container. Once a day USPS picks up the containers. These people really work their butts off to get your order to you quickly.

Hello Rod,

I've noticed the same thing. I seem to recall that Dean Brasseur (use to own Brasseur Trains) is now managing their parts (excellent service).

The only drawback is what happens to the parcel once it leaves Lionel.  I'm finding a typical 2-3 weeks delay for Customs storage at the border (and an appropriate storage fee charge)  (not Lionel's issue by any means).

On a side note however, I'm able to get parts to my door from England in less than a week.  If I order on Monday, I have the parts on Friday (so it's definitely a 49th parallel border issue)
