When building a helix, the sharper the curve/the steeper the grade because you need  height clearance with each successive level. O-36 is going to give you a horrendous grade, plus it's going to put a twist in the track that will cause some problems with rigid-frame steam engines as the rails may not be close enough to being level. I wouldn't build a helix with anything less than O-72, but O-84 or O-96 would be much better if you had the room.
