Hi,  I have a Christmas village set I am trying to get to work and I am having issues with voltage.  I am powering with a MTH Z4000 through an TUI.  I can only get up to 3 volts to the track.  I have checked continuedly between both power and ground connections.  I wired positive to outside rail and ground to middle rail.  I have a 072 switch, crossing on this layout.  I made sure the crossing isolation was on the right side.  I have 3 14 gauge wires powering the track.

Do I need more wiring in different parts of track?  Voltage on transformer says 16 volts and I only have 3.

I do know Fastrack is not that great and soldering is not an option for me.

Thanks

Before you do anything, follow bmoran4’s suggestion and bypass the TIU to be sure there is no other problem.

If that works reconnect the TIU.

Track voltage is controllable with the TIU.  The TIU has 2 fixed voltage and 2 variable voltage terminals.

You did not indicate what you are running, conventional, DCS or Legacy/TMCC.  Using your DCS controller you can set the variable channels to fixed and set the starting voltages.  It is possible that you accidentally changed the voltage.

Using the remote:

  • press TR
  • press the button under ALL
  • Scroll and select TIU
  • Press the button under TSV(track starting voltage)
  • use the thumbwheel to change the voltage.

Instructions are included with the TIU and remote or available on line.

Lets us know how you make out.
