Got the layout organized last night but then realized that there does not seem to be a way to easily disconnect the wires from the switch or the controller. I want to run the wire down under the plywood and back to a control panel and add some length to it. I fear if I cut the wire, no matter how good a job I do, I've screwed resale value.

Any thoughts on how to do this? What do you do?

Well, are you really planning on selling them anytime soon?  If that's super important to you, just remove the original wires completely and fabricate some end to end wires.

In any case, the Fastrack switch wires have bare ends at the switch end, so splicing them there and continuing to the switch doesn't involve cutting the wires.  If you decided you want to sell, I doubt anyone's going to miss the 1/2" you cut off to strip for fresh ends after the splicing.

You disconnect the wires from the switch simply by unscrewing those little screws on the switch a couple of turns, presto the wires come out.  You can also remove them from the switch controllers if desired, take the controller cover off.

The thermostat wire is color coded as well.  There are different type, with different numbers of wires. I think the one I used was 5 conductor, and I just didn't use one.  The colors match except for one, where I used blue for the black, I think.  What I like about it is that it is solid not stranded, not sure what the phone wire is, probably solid too, and the gauge is thick enough to easily push into the connections on the bottom of the switch.  Is that also the case with the phone wire?
