I am definately going to attempt it, as my upper level will be Penn Station, and my lower level already has the old Grand Central Depot of 1879-1910 about 25% done from 2 kitbashed MTH Engine sheds.

How many banks do I need?

Great idea Alex. I have a spot that needs a train station that is basicly a flat and you got me thinking.

  There's a few things I failed to mention in my first post. The center main structure

was expanded in depth by 1 1/8 inches. Also the two wings were lowered by 1 inch.

Fantastic.  I plan to shamelessly copy your example for my layout.

 

I did something similar years ago in N scale, taking several bank building kits - can't remember whose, and making a scale model of this station.  It was a noble looking building when done, but it went out with the rest of layout about 7 years ago.  

 

Really nice. 

A few years ago I made one for Liberty Hi-Railers. I used 2 banks (aka Court houses). IMO, it was impressive using only 2.

Chipset to do this build that I'm doing, you will need 4 banks. Because you will be short one front door entrance and you will also be short 2 sides. But you can change the design a little and you will be able to use 3 banks.

Alex - This was a project I intended to do before TrainWorx came out with their Chicago Union Station. I never get tired of seeing different versions of big city passenger terminals. With your talent, I expect it will turn out really well and I am anxious to see the results.

That's very nice work.  I like what you have done so far.  I built this smaller station out of 3 mth banks and some other kit parts about five years ago.  I think i actually used 4 banks, but only because i messed up so much along the way.  Here it is after it was newly built, and the last pic is on the layout.  I look forward to seeing your finished station.

Judging by how well your project is progressing there can be no doubt that you are enjoying it thoroughly. What a good way to transform an otherwise relatively common building into a work of art! As others have requested, please post pictures of the station when completed.
