I used to see those "E Units", in and around Louisville, Ky when I was a Kid.....They would back into Old Union Station and I remember the drum on the back of the Observation that said "Humming Bird". I always liked their Passenger Engine Paint Scheme, and for my liking was equal to the Santa Fe. I bought a Pair of Williams "A-A" Units, with that Paint scheme. I didn't know that Lionel offered that, as I saw where you said yours was Legacy. What year did Lionel offer these engines ??...I haven't viewed their catalogs in a long time....!

Thanks guys - Rod, I have some better video but they are too long (over 100mb) and I don't know how to edit. This is the only one that was short.

Brandy, these are current releases. I bought mine from Mr Muffin and he may still have a set in stock. They look even better in person!

Some years ago I came across a pair of these at the Chattanooga Choo Choo but they were lettered Tennessee Vally RR if I'm remembering correctly. They were stunning and painted in a very high gloss.

I just added some more stills to the thread

Thanks Sam, I'll call Mr. Muffin tomorrow, and see if he has any left over......I wonder where one could get the parts to do fixed pilots for these Lionel and the Williams, that I already have in E7's......Would you have any idea...?

Thanks again Sam, and I forgot to thank you for your Post as well.

When a person is doing medication for dementia, I find it strange, how little things that will get my long term memory into high gear, as when I saw your L&N Engine postings......Flash backs as a young kid, riding my bicycle around the west end of Louisville, in search of/for steam engines to watch running/working. I'll stop now Sam, so I won't bore any one to tears, with my old man BS stories........Thanks again for the L&N Pictures......!

P.S. I forgot to ask do you have the matching Passenger/stream lined cars for those beauty's...?

No passenger cars for these yet. I think MTH made a set years ago but their engines are so dark that the cars probably won't match these engines.  I may try to create some from some 21" K-Line unpainted cars I have.  I'm going to try Mario to see if he has any spacers for these and fix the pilots too.

Yes, the gap is indeed unfortunate; wish Lionel would address this issue as it is not always an easy fix. Fortunately, being black it is not all that noticeable while actually in operation. I should be more careful with my camera angle to minimize it.

The Mario I'm referring to is a Forum member who does a great job with his 3D printer and makes these items for some diesels.           His handle is:

No matter how perfect a model is made, some can find faults, and that’s very disappointing. This particular model is really nice, the paint colors are amazing, the Legacy Command System is Fantastic. I do not know why people like to hurt people, it simply happens.  I am a believer in Constructive Critism, not belittling.  If the folks do not like the product, please make No comments.  The Layout is Beautiful, the Train is the main Character, moving Flawlessly....Nuff sayd.....Happy New Year

Nice engine, Sam, and a beautiful layout - very impressive. Being a New Yorker who has been living in Pennsylvania for 20+ years, L&N isn't something that usually catches my eye, but the paint scheme on these E8's is very attractive. I have the Erie E8 from a year or two ago and love it. I know there was a bunch of criticism when the originals came out (and it seems to continue), but I think those vociferous folks forget that these are toy trains running on 3 rail track. Enjoy!!!

Not sure what Lionel had in mind with the richer shade of blue on these. I also have the Williams set below and have seen many HO models that are all darker blue.  I hate to admit it, but when Mr Muffin posted some color pics of these Legacy units awhile back - I really fell for them and hit the order button! Not truly prototypical but it IS my RR...  :-)
