Hobby Lobby has 1/48 scale plastic airplane kits by Testors. Could work for flat car loads.

Body on one flat, wings on another ?
Working on a 1:48 model right now, great idea on the flat and gondola. What did you do for the tie downs?
The flatcar is an old AHM model. I hollowed out the stake pockets and used black sewing thread as rope/wire to tie down the Corsair. Black embroidery thread can also be used as it is a little thicker than the thread and gives the appearance of heavier gauge steel cable IMO.

Mark the crates for wings, prop and engine sure make that van interesting delivery to the team traqck.
This inspired me, Corsair coming down the home stretch, is that a mustang I see above?
I like the gondola but these Menards 14 inch flat cars are a deal. Who has a suggestion on the best deal on "scale" wood for the crates / supports?
PS- wish I had not glued the prop on now- that is a way cool crate!

Snowy day and...finally got this project done, thanks to the inspiration and ideas of the posters in this and other threads on OGR. The Menards 14.5 inch flats work well for these loads.
