I've enjoyed viewing the pictures in this forum so much, I wanted to contribute something!

Close to home here in Orlando is the short-line Florida Central Railroad (FCEN); they operate ~70 miles of track in Central Florida.  Best as I can tell, FCEN seems to be too small to have ever caught Lionel’s eye–otherwise, I would most certainly have some FCEN power on my layout!  Maybe I can commission the local talent for a custom at some point.

There’s a FCEN spur near where I get my hair cut, and my son and I will occasionally swing by to see whatever equipment and cars are standing on the tracks.  The railway is right next to the road, so it provides a unique opportunity to see the equipment up close but safely--in fact, all these pictures were taken out the window of my truck.  Here are some shots from a couple of our recent stops; we got great looks at FCEN 55 and FCEN 59.

Thanks to www.rrpicturearchives.net, I discovered:

Florida Central Railroad (FCEN) #55 (EMD GP-7)

Built February 1951 as Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe (ATSF) 2680

Rebuilt/modified into Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe (ATSF) 2155

Painted into FCEN deco early 1990’s

Florida Central Railroad (FCEN) #59 (EMD GP-18)

Built October 1961 as Chicago Rock Island & Pacific (CRIP) 1353

Formerly Florida West Coast Railroad (FWCR) 1353

Painted into FCEN deco 2009

Thanks for posting .  I’ve been admiring those Florida Central diesels ever since they first arrived in town sometime back in the 1980’s.  Their passenger cars are nice, too.  They used to run a dinner train with those cars from Altamonte up to Eustis which my wife and I and another couple rode once.  As I recall, the dinner train didn’t last long.

As far as I know Lionel never made any Florida Central rolling stock and I don’t think MTH or K-Line did either.  But not sure about Weaver or Atlas O, though.

Yep, that crop of 6-8 CF7's have served them well over the years.  When a line has only a dozen or so locomotives, seeing a specific one is like seeing an old friend you know.

Neat!  Would like to have done the dinner train thing.  Yeah, I've been looking for FCEN stuff for years, never had any luck.

If one were to have a custom shell made of just about anyhing on the FCEN roster, I suppose for FULL authenticity it would need to be modified from an ATSF.

I like the fact that there are other railroads here in Florida besides the two main players; CSX and FEC. Have seen Florida Central a time or two driving along the interstate routes here in FL.

Now for somebody to do a custom run for a small RR, it may main big bucks($100.00 or more) to spray paint a shell of an engine for an independant RR. At least that is what a guy wanted here in WPB to do one for me, I declined as I thought it was too expensive.

I’m not familiar with that shop.  Are you sure that they carry only Florida CENTRAL trains?  Did you mean Florida East Coast?  With the FEC being the only railroad running through St. Augustine and having a large office in St. Augustine, I would think they would definitely carry FEC.  The Florida Central doesn’t run anywhere close to St. Augustine.
