I've seen discounts on prices but no free shipping. Not even with a minimum order.
Check Mario’s Trains. I believe at $50 you get free shipping.

How about to improve their sales quota? And why not since they frequently do it on other holidays???

It is typically considered a marketing or advertising tool used by businesses. Simular to Black Friday which now is actually on Thursday, Presidents day, Christmas-before-after-etc.
Amazon has free shipping, usually on qualified items, after $50.00 purchase
I personally resent the "4th of July", Veterans day, and Memorial day sales.
We should be honoring and celebrating; those who started our country at all levels of sacrifice; those who served and survived; and those who served and paid the ultimate price.
There is no free lunch anymore, those shippers got to get paid as well as the retailers. just look around to see who has the best deal taking in shipping and the cost of your purchase. I noticed there is not a lot of folks offering no more then ten to thirteen percent plus shipping.

I've been getting free shipping from Amazon simply by waiting an extra day or three for the products to ship.
