Front End Friday

With three and a half hours left of Front End Friday, here is my contribution.

The little kid went on to be a railroader for a time.

The answer is buried in one of my BRHS newsletters which is equally buried.  What I remember is this was a proposal by the Burlington to EMC for the E5's. 

However, crews generally didn't like the shovel noses as they offered little protection in a collision and I recall this had influenced the rejection of the design.  Cost may have been another factor.

Plus, as standardization was taking hold the E5 as built not only offered more crew protection, but was essentially an E3 with customization of styling on the carbody sides.

Wow, STEAMER, I've never seen a real-life photo of an S2 Steam Turbine. Even the workers in the photo seem amazed at it. Thanks! I've only ever seen models, and love the one I have. It glides along so uniquely.

Almost all NYC, almost all Hudsons.A mixed bag of fantasy and real, Anheuser-Busch Pacific and 0-4-0 switcher, ATSF Blue Goose J not Hudson for the fantasy and a N&W Y6b for real.

I have very few modern diesels, mostly ones in Bicentennial paint schemes.  I do have this two beauties I bought with several double stacks to run when visitors want to see something with more color.  They are K-Line SD75s.
