Unfortunately it is a cost benefit study. It would most probably cost MTH at least 274K to 325K to tool this locomotive. But as I recall Lionel did make a scale size one so they would/should only have to retool for a can-motor.

Lionel did indeed make a scale one of these. I saw one at a train show just a few weeks ago with a $275 price tag.
