Gargraves or Ross electric switches?

The changes did make GarGraves better, but I prefer Ross.  My trains run smoother on them.

Economically Gargraves is a good switch or turnout. Because my layout was quite large and I could not afford Ross switches up front. I purchase used Gargraves. You will have a few derailments and shorts but I installed a fast acting breaker and this prevented premature heart failure...

Fast forward to 9 years later.  Ross is bar none more reliable because of their die-cast frogs. I now can afford upgrades in high traffic areas! I would say I am about 80 percent complete with my upgrading, other areas will remain Gargraves just because they are reliable and work fine where they are, and if its not broke... then ....

Hands down Ross top quality of construction shows in the long haul. Like comparing a BMW and a new  Lincoln. Invest your hard earned money wisely and get Ross. Gargreaves is still sketchy after all these decades. Ross has proven reliability over time. You will not be sorry with Ross.

Vast majority of switches are Gargraves with two Ross switches,special track wyes are Ross, all switches and wyes powered by Circuitron Tortoise slow action switch machines mounted below train table, all uncoupling tracks older version Gargraves with round magnet.

Ross.  Without a doubt.  Over time, I've replaced almost all Gargraves Switches with Ross ones as time and money allowed.

Save yourself money and aggravation in the long term and go Ross.

It's simple you get what you pay for. Hold both switches in your hands and the difference is obvious. I have Gar-grave switches on my layout and They are OK, but I put them where I can reach them.

Now track it's Gar Grave all the way.

I had older Gar graves switches so I do not know about the newer ones. But the perfect way to go is Ross switches and gar graves track. With the older switches I always had problems backing long trains through them.....Paul 

I have Lionel Fastrack; so, does that mean Ross will not connect to my track??

I'm piling on from above!  I have about 50 turnouts.  I have 46 Gargraves and 4 Ross.

Don't get me wrong, Gargraves is a GREAT product.  I have purchased their switches since 2011--all brand new.  I've had a few minor problems--most involving Menards cars...so I can't say if it is the switch, the car, or a combination.

Regardless, 99% of my Gargraves turnouts have worked perfectly since the day I purchased them.  These are less expensive than Ross.

HOWEVER, ROSS SWITCHES ARE THE ROLLS ROYCE OF TURNOUTS.  These are the BEST.  That is by far the majority opinion.  I have 4 Ross switches, two 4-way turnouts, 1 wye and 1 curved switch.  I have NEVER had one single issue with any car by any manufacturer.

Why did I buy Gargraves?  Money.  I purchase new from $52 to $56.

Ross are in high 70s.  If I had the money, I would have.  I just wanted so many turnouts that I elected to go Gargraves because I could get almost a 3 to 1 ratio.

In the future, If turnouts go bad, I will replace with Ross.

IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT, GO ROSS!!!  They are the best, second-to-none.

Somewhat off topic, but I also prefer Ross Fixed Curved Sections above Gargraves....although the difference is indeed much smaller than on the switches.

I am up to 54 Ross switches on my layout- all kinds O72 /11 degree up to double cross overs.

Another advantage of Ross switches is the various adapter tracks that make a curve that gets you back to your desired center rail clearance - 3", 3.5, 4", 4.5 and so on.  This cuts out a lot of cutting and bending of track.

Amen Richard!  There product offerings alone put them at the top of any three rail track list....IMHO.

And their product is Made in the States and always available, unlike Atlas.
