They are doing an eight car set in aluminum (perhaps two sets will be offered to cover all names?) plus the theater car as an add-on, as well as both water tenders. No pricing info yet. Should be amazing! Pics currently on the Sunset Models Facebook page but nothing yet on goldengatedepot.com.

I bet these are going to be absolutely gorgeous. I'm pretty happy with the die-cast tenders that Lionel has released, but I'll definitely pick up a complete excursion set.

Hi Jeramiah,
That's great news! I will be up for a complete set. I like the Lionel cars that i have acquired from cobbling together pieces from various years, but i would be the GGD version would have that extra quality and feature that was seen when they did the Southern Pacific sets for example.
I look forward to more details of timing and price, hoping these are not too far off in the future.

Talked to Scott yesterday at the March Meet, these cars are going to be fantastic. Thanked him from all of us who wanted these.
Can hardly wait for the order link…or delivery!
Some info available now on Third and Townsend Models O Scale Preorder page: https://www.thirdandtownsendmodels.com/oscalepreorder
I'll definitely be in for the two water cars and the 2066 power car. I've already got most of what I need from Lionel. I'm sure these will be considerably better but I'm trying to scale back my purchasing these days.
I’ll definitely be in for tenders and a power car. I’m waiting to see pricing to decide if I want any more cars. Well I might want them but what I want to spend money on 😅
So nice to see all these and passenger cars with ball bearings!
If I could, I'd buy the whole train... and a full set of SP for my Daylights..... and the NYC ones... and the chargers...
great time to be in O scale. It will be exciting to see these.
The 3-D printed posts were edited out of this thread. They belong in the 3-D category.
There will be two different sets available and off course offerings for various add-on cars, but that is still to be determined. It should be a very exciting set. Still a lot of planning to do though!
Jonathan, I sure would like to see a 1950’s U P set to accompany the yet to be made Sunset Erie built diesels. The UP cars could also be a big part of a 1970’s AUTO- TRAIN.

I don't think Scott would do this but it wouldn't hurt to ask here, and ask you too, I did see some of the preliminary ad on cars that was potentially going to be offered. Would it be possible to make all the cars add-ons just in case you want to buy one of the sets and add on more than what has been preliminarily announced? I would like to get a set and cars from another, without reserving 2 sets and selling off the majority of the 2nd set.

Agreed - someone who buys both sets ends up with three duplicate cars (the two coaches and an extra power car). Maybe GGD would consider doing four sleepers (two different ones per set) instead of coaches and have the coaches as add-ons?
As always, these new announcements take a little time to shake out. There will certainly be add-on car options, they just need to be determined. Stay tuned for updates!
Real life observations of UP 4014 BB trains .... in relation to GGD offerings being planned ...
The two GGD sets that were described had cars, which UP had since coming out in 2019 always were together, but in the sets one car in one set and another car in the other set. For example: Walter Dean and City of Denver.
Thee were some cars that were in almost all the real life trains - Howard Fogg, Lynn Nystrom always follows Art Lockman ... granted these are upfront baggage redone cars but always present - and these are not yet in the sets are as extras.
Early BB tour trains had a Theatre like care as last car ("Idaho") then later "Lincoln" business car as last car.
There seemed to be two Power cars - 2055 and 2066, but i haver no yet tracked with what versions of the tour trains.
You al most need to look at all trains since 2019 and document which cars with which train by year or tour or both.
It will be interesting to see which GGD cars are committed to be made and in what grouping(s).

Personally, I'm not a particular fan of the theater cars and would prefer if they were dropped from the sets and were exchanged with a dome. However, I'm sure other people feel the opposite way. I would just prefer that if you buy two of the sets that when you run them together you don't end up with 3 business/theater cars sitting while one runs. So, maybe the ideal solution is to take the theater/business cars out of the sets and put unique chair/coach cars in instead?

Oh wow. Look at that. I seem to have become very poor, very quicky. I'm very excited about these.
BUT with the 2066 Power car have two rotating fans and a smoke unit??
@AlanRail posted:BUT with the 2066 Power car have two rotating fans and a smoke unit??
Perhaps if you add them. E.g. I plan to harvest the Legacy electronics from my two quasi-prototypical Lionel aux tenders and install them in these upcoming GGD beauties. Then I'll sell the empty Lionel tenders, along with all of my other Lionel UP cars.
I'm still going to order the cars I need but $600 a piece is expensive, even by GGD standards.
I went in for set B, 1 tender & the Columbine dome. I’m hoping for a City of Portland dome diner. Even though I’m supporting this project I will say $600.00 a car is extremely steep and I really hope the level of detail matches that price.
Is there a historical way to track the consist behind #4014? I have the original 9-car consist and the 15-car loadout from when I saw it in Fort Worth, but I can't find the source for the two sets being offered for sale.

Is there a particular year you would like a breakdown of? I can share my lists from Challenger, Big Boy and 844 runs.
My dream consist will have about 22 MTH premier consist pulled by my Big Boy oil burner. We live close enough to UP Steam's home in Cheyenne that we have chased and ridden the excursions for years. My excursion train will be a blend of all that we have experienced.
As a newbie to 3rd Rail passenger cars, will their cars blend with mine? I need the two power cars and one platform car. Are they heavier and what kind of couplers do they have?

They have regular O Gauge couplers. The cars are 21" long so they will be a bit longer than your MTH cars (also bigger minimum curve). As for the paint match, it's hard to say without setting the finished product.
