I spoke to 3rd-Rail this afternoon and the GM Train of Tomorrow has made it's way to California. Pending the dock handling situation, we could very well see them in our homes before Christmas. Let's hope so. This will be a stunning addition to any O-Gauge layout.

Update December 23rd

Container arrive 6PM last night, unloaded... Shipping begins Tuesday December 23rd.

"I have a siding on my Christmas layout reserved for this train. Can Scott make this happen by Christmas? I BELIEVE."

You have been very good this year Emile and Santa will make this happen for you.

Mine has a long way to go, but I will post photos as soon as it arrives.

I cannot think of another time when so many really landmark trains were shipping to all of us within such a short timespan.  What an exciting couple of months it has been and the Big Boy is yet to come.

I am looking forward to the ToT just about as much as any train I have ever bought.  It is going to be a sight to behold.

What carrier are these shipped through?  Even at 10 days it would be Dec 16th and then it only takes 5 days from West to East with UPS ground so I would think I would still see them before New Year.  No?

In any event, Scott gets a big pat on the back. From the time of announcement of the ToT till now when it has arrived in the USA, this has been a more than reasonable time frame to get this to us.

Thanks Scott for all of your initiative and hard work on this project. I doubt that it would have ever been made were it not for your initiative.

I have one suggestion. The individual who should receive the first one is my good friend and Forum member, Keith R. If it were not for his continuous push to get this train made, it may have never happened. I would sure chip in for the added expense to overnight his set so that he has it for Christmas.

Absolutely! Brian (Passenger Train Collector) could not be more right about that. Just as "The First Gift of Christmas" went to the Hero Boy in the Polar Express: The first ToT has to go to Keith R. His posts about the ToT inspired me to order the train as I'm sure it did for many others. Put me down for half with Brian for the added shipping cost.

I'll chip in as well for the expedited shipping, if that is the route we can take.

It also would mean less time in the shipping system(less hops) so less chances of damage.

if you guys are serious, I'll contact Scott M. to see if we can make this work.

3 Day Air UPS is very costly, maybe $150 more in shipping costs for the 2 boxes. UPS
ground to the East Coast takes 5 business days from CA. (1 week).

My guess is, we will have these by the 15th - 17th to ship, if:

1. The Port doesn't have more labor slowdowns.
2. The Port congestion doesn't slow down unloading.
3. Customs doesn't do an XRAY hold on our container
( causing 1   week delay).
4. Our Freight Forwarder can Schedule a Truck to deliver the
container in a timely manner.

Most of the process is really out of our hands.

I return from China on 12-21, so it doesn't give me much time to
coordinate a special shipment. Just 2 Business days then Christmas.

Keep your fingers crossed.

If They don't make it by Christmas, then more likely by New Years Eve, but it could easily go past 1.1.2015.

I am as excited about this train as anybody and I didn't even order one.

I hope one of our Club members did.  If not, I will check with the powers to be and then I would like to invite anyone that gets the ToT to run on our layout.

Anybody out there expecting the ToT that is a reasonable distance from Griffith Indiana?

I promise to keep tabs on this and if we can make it work for Keith to have under the Christmas Tree, we will get it done. Thanks to Emile and Nawlins for your willingness to participate.

Your guys do BELIEVE and let's see if this can really be the First Gift of Christmas for Keith.

Is everybody as Blown Away as I am at the communication between Scott/Third Rail and their customers? Other companies give us vague delivery dates like: "2nd Quarter 2015." Third Rail gives us the GPS tracking information for the shipping container holding our trains. Nobody is making better use of social media and modern business technology than Third Rail. Thank you Scott! Bravo!

Emile

"At the prices he charges, Scott should hand deliver each set personally..."

I think it would be well to consider the facts before making such a statement. Think about the cost of tooling for a set of 4 unique passenger cars that have never been done before in O-Gauge. Think about all of the unique add-ons that make this set unique. Think about having to spread this cost over only 70 sets.

Have any of the big guys stepped forward to produce this set? NO. The only reason we as consumers can get to enjoy it is because Scott was willing to produce it while no one else would touch the ToT.

So I for one consider the price to be a bargain for such a unique price. Obviously others agree with me as there were sufficient numbers to make it worthwhile. And Scott deserves to make a profit on these as a small producer could not stay in business otherwise.
