I am in the process of replacing MTH Realtrax with mostly Ross and some Gargraves where I need custom cuts. The one thing I appear to be missing is an obvious choice for lighted track bumpers. Both Williams and Lionel offer products that advertise the ability to connect to 'brand x' o-gauge track systems. But it is not clear to me from reading the adverts whether they are truly a snap-on solution or if more customization is required to make them work. What have some of you done in this area?

it's been a while since i've had the need, but i seem to remember the plain-Jane Lionel #260 lighted bumper works just fine with Gargraves track.
Yes, the #260 bumper, as stated above will work. Spread the ties apart and it will fit in the space. Be careful when you squeeze the trailing legs as they may snap off.
I really like the Gargraves bumpers. however they don't have lights.
What about using the newer Lionel lighted bumpers? They have a plastic body and have a light on them but need a better way to get electric feed to the light bulb, if you could skip the track power pick-up and hard wire them to a transformer feed they work better or at least keep the light lit.

if you go back over some of Jim Barrett's articles, he wrote a short piece on how to use a common, lighted plastic Lionel track bumper as a signal to show when the train is close to the end of the siding or yard track. Basically, you cut the outside rail, on the side that has the pick-up for the ground for the light, about six inches from the bumper but leave the center rail intact. So as you back a train into the siding the light remains dark until the last car makes contact across the rails and the light goes on letting you know that the train is all the way into the siding. I've done it on several of my sidings, both yards and industrial or station sidings and it really works well.
Gives you a positive indication and you can shut off the power and keep the train from bunching up against the bumper. So then you can shut off the siding, the train is in place and the light goes off. Simple!

I use the #260 bumper on dead ends that have Gargraves. I use a block power set up: when the block is powered the bumper lights up. I also put small numbers on them for identification.
