Has anyone produced a NYC Tri Powered unit

Hi,

Has anyone produced a NYC Tri Powered unit. That is, the small boxy unit that looks like a diesel. They were classed as DES. These units were powered off of the 3rd rail or battery. The diesel that it was equipped with recharged the batteries. If it was produced I assume it was way back in the 1930's or 40's.
