Now that Lionel's LionChief sets are readily available in big box and department stores such as the Polar Express at Boscovs, has anyone opened one up yet to check out the electronics inside it? I'm asking this because I have Lionel's Polar Express loco with the steam whistle effect (fan driven smoke unit for steam whistle and a puffing unit for main smoke stack) and am wondering if the LionChief Polar Express electronics can be easily retro-fitted into my PE steam whistle effect engine. Doing so would not only give me the remote capability but also those additional PE specific conductor sounds the Lion Chief has but the fixed 18 volt voltage should also make the puffer smoke unit work much better because of that consistantly high voltage the train's being powered with. Anyone have an idea if such a swapping of boards will work?
