I was getting my shopping list together to clean and lube some of my Lionel prewar and post war motors. I usually use CRC contact cleaner and saw this WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner on sale at my local store. Has anyone used this and what were your thoughts on its cleaning ability and were you satisfied with the end results?

Used as a track cleaner also. Seems to work good.
Interesting - any more feedback on motor cleaning vs CRC, etc?
That is interesting. I shall have to try it, I'm curious to see how well it works.
Never tried the Wd just the Crc which is safe for plastic < e-unit drum > at least the one in hand says that .

I'm batting .1000 with CRC plastic safe cleaner. It's great for a lot of stuff. I think I'll stick with a proven winner rather than experiment.
What dieseler and okhiker said. Is the wd40 product a ton cheaper or some other advantage?
I believe the main issue alluded to is how reactive is it on plastic?
Nothing is more agitating than watching the reverser drum melt before your eyes or worse detailed parts damaged from slight overspray

The WD-40 contact cleaner is plastic safe. I've used both the CRC and the WD-40 with equally good results
only problem using WD-40 it will gum up in time using it as a motor lubricant CRC is much better and leaves NO residue ! its ok to use on plastic but not very good as a lubricant!
Thanks for the feedback @Alan Mancus, @Lenny J, @albertstrains, @hokie71, @OKHIKER, @Dieseler, @bobotech, @Tinplate Art, @BobbyD. I just wanted to make others aware of the product and have a short discussion on it to determine its potential as an alternative to CRC. Based upon the results staying with a known entity such as the CRC outweighs the potential downsides of the WD-40 contact cleaner. It was only $1 cheaper and certainly does not warrant additional parts damage.
@CJ Meyers thanks for the information. I have a few prewar super motors I have to work on and re-wheel. Had you used the CRC contact cleaner previously And switched to this or just always used the electrical parts cleaner?
For toy train motor overhauling I've settled for the CRC Lectra-Motive. I tried disassembly, then hand cleaning with alcohol or similar, it always was a mess and left my hands black. Now I just spray the CRC on everything, gears, armature, contacts. The gunk that comes out of some of my pre-war motor projects is pretty amazing. Always makes starting the tear down job a lot cleaner.
Among my other crazy hobbies, antique cars, hi-fi equipment and machine tool rebuilding, if I specifically need a contact cleaner, I go for the Caig DeOxit. I've rescued rheostats, industrial motor contacts, automotive switches, etc with that stuff.

This is WD Contact Cleaner we are talking about, not the WD40 Lubricant.
