My RCMC test set came out so nice that I decided to build one for the BEMC/RCDR boards.

Two complete simulated smoke units are provided, this test set actually didn't need the real smoke motors as there is no back-EMF sensing.  I had made provisions for them, but I replaced the motor with a simple 120 ohm resistor to provide a similar load.  You'll note the BEMC uses 16 ohm smoke resistors instead of the more common Legacy 8 ohm resistors.

All the lighting outputs are represented with individual LED's.  There are also separate LED's for the light outputs and 5V power from the RCDR TMCC receiver board.  LED are color coded for quick recognition, red for rear markers, green for front markers, blue for ditch lights, etc.  Couplers are simulated by resistors as well.  Both the smoke unit functions and couplers have LED function indicators to provide visual feedback of operation.  A header is provided to connect a RailSounds Lite audio board, that facilitates operation evaluation as sounds are an important feedback for board operation.

The BEMC uses a Hall Effect sensor with a slightly oddball output, it toggles on and off, and for steam, each change in state is a chuff.  That's not like any of the other boards, TMCC or early Legacy.  Since I didn't have wheels to put a Hall Effect sensor on, I programmed up my Chuff-Generator to emulate the output of the Hall Effect sensor so I'd have a way to properly generate the output of the Hall Effect sensor.  The Chuff-Generator is mounted on the motor just like it would be in it's normal use.  A jumper is also provided to disable the output of the Hall Effect sensor simulation for testing.

I have test cables to operate with either the Rev. 1 or Rev. 2 version of the RCDR, shown is the Rev. 1 RCDR in these pictures.

A ten position header is provided with 'scope probe points to many of the most common functions that you might like to electronically monitor.

Here's a view of the set in operation.

Here you see it connected to the RCDR and BEMC

RS-Lite board also is connected for sound feedback.
