I purchased this beautiful engine recently through eBay from a hobby shop back East. Arrived with an inoperable headlight. I tried Aux 2, but quickly realized that wasn't the issue. The number boards and markers all cycled with Aux2, but the headlight did not. BUMMER! I was excited that it might be a simple "fix."

They are offering to have me send it back or take it to a shop closer to me and they will take care of it, which I appreciate. I visited the only Lionel Authorized Repair facility in Southern California recently but I was not impressed. Is there a reputable shop that you wonderful folks know of that I can take it close to home, or should I send her packing?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the little grain of wheat bulb is burnt out. Lionel no longer has that part direct but you should be able to find one through someone else. I replaced mine, the local electronics store (now closed down) had a bulb that worked. Unfortunately I don’t know of anyone in your area. Once it’s up and working it’s a beautiful locomotive. Still love mine, currently upgrading it with GRJ’s Supper Chuffer and a new LED headlight with two separate LEDS on the number boards on each side of the headlight.

@zhubl Appreciate you taking the time to respond. It is definitely gorgeous. Will be even more attractive once the headlight is operational again. LOL ... I would LOVE to have the confidence to install a Super Chuffer. The Rule 17 lighting alone makes it worth the price in my opinion. I'm just afraid I'll ruin the board. I soldered the needed connections on the end of my Jeep foglights and reminded myself why I don't mess with soldering and circuit boards. HAHAHA
