Hi,

Hooked up the base 3 last night, with the big boy super set.  Took a while but finally got the Big Boy to connect up and run.  Still working through al the features, not very user friendly.  Anyhow, trying to get the stock car to make the aux sounds, talking etc.  I got it assigned to the base 3, it will make noise, sheep sounds while rolling, but none of the buttons do anything on the app.  I can't get it to talk, like it shows on Eric's trains video, "eat you with some mint jelly" unload these sheep" etc.  Looking for what I am doing wrong, can't figure it out.  Thanks

Another issue I'm having, is connecting a legacy BNSF 1228 genset.  It will connect to the base 3, lights kick on and whistle sounds, but thats it.  It won't move, nor does the engine info populate on the screen.  And after about 30 seconds, it no longer shows on the engine roster.  The big boy legacy works, but thats the only one I can get to connect and work right.

Does it have a unique TMCC address (using the PGM / RUN) procedure and are you setting that address as a Legacy Control, Legacy Sounds and set it as a freight car in the configuration menu?

The engine issue we will need a product number.  Depending on it's age you may have to enter that information manually and again did you set it for it's unique ID (using the PGM / RUN) procedure and as a Legacy control, diesel, Legacy sounds?  I know these are basic questions but without know what you did we have to ask.

Zhubl, yes sir, I updated base 3 as soon as I hooked it up, the app i just downloaded, assuming it's the latest.

MartyE, I watched several of your videos, and is the reason I bought a base3, you made it look easy!  Thank you for the videos.

That being said, I am ignorant of all this stuff, very new to it all, I had an old early 80s set when i was a kid, black box w a red lever, the more you rotate the lever, the faster you go!  Then just used lion chief remotes in the last few years.  The last month I went off the deep end, buying stuff....lol

The car, yes, it's has its own eng id, I set it to freight sounds as well.

Anyhow, the engine is Lionel BNSF genset 1228, product # 2133100

I switch the base 3 to pgm, switch the engine to pgm , and power the track up. I then hit "eng" then type in 1228, hit "set"  cab lights up and i get a horn blast.  Switch back to "run" on base 3 and engine.  Nothing works.  About a min later, it disappears from the roster.  I've tried the 3 different sound setups in the engine settings, nothing.  I also notice, it will not self populate the info into the engine ID, like the bigboy did when I hooked it up.

I'll try and get a video on here as well.

Thank you

The horn blast confirmed it got the new id you set, that's good.  But you are not finished with the configuration.  Now you need to configure the app to set the loc to legacy control.  When you select the engine in the Cab3, there should be a screen/option to configure how it talks to the engine (Tmcc, Legacy).  You need to set that so it will talk properly to the loc.  I don't have a base 3 but I'm sure others can help you with those details.

I think the program button on the base itself is intended for adding the Bluetooth lionchief equipment.  Try programming your legacy locomotive without putting the base3 into program mode, only the locomotive itself.

If programming a TMCC engine or Legacy engine you DO NOT use the program buttons on Base3.  Only on the locomotive.  As stated above those are only for Bluetooth Only or RF engines.  Maybe describe exactly how you are programming it as well.

As far as that engine populating the information, I suspect it's not of the new enough vintage to do that so you'll need to enter the info manually or run it over a Sensor Track.

Others have already caught onto the Run-PRG switch mix up.

your sequence for the Genset and the stock car should be as follows And do this separately for each product

1. with power off move the locomotive RUN-PRG switch to “PRG”

2. Apply track power

3. choose a 2 DIGIT ID number for that product and enter it.

4. Hit “SET”

5. Move the RUN-PRG switch back to “RUN”

after that your ID will be set but you’ll probably still have to manually input any information into the base as to what they are. It should be noted for the two you are having problems with you must use a 2 DIGIT address only the big boy was capable of using a 4 digit address
