Hello,

I just purchased a lionmaster Legacy Big Boy and when it arrived everything worked except the sound of chaffing and the reverse light in the tender (the smoke unit chaffing is working fine).

Honestly feel like this may be a connection issue between the locomotive and tender, but after moving the draw bar back and forth (ir tether) nothing allowed chaffing sounds to work, the tender basically thinks it is always standing still.

Any idea what would cause this issue? Appreciate any input!

Thank you so much and happy holidays!

Miller

You have whistle and bell so it appears the i.r. drawbar is communicating as it should.

I believe this model uses a "cherry switch" activated by a cam on one of the drive axles to generate the chuff sound. It's possible the switch is bad or needs to be adjusted so it makes full travel when activated by the cam.

Does the smoke unit work? If so, does it puff as though the loco is chuffing?

The cherry switch also activates the smoke unit puffs.

You could try using dialog as a diagnostic to see if the tender "thinks" it is moving or stationary. Using the 2 key or 7 key, if the conversation is around "asking for clearance to depart" while your engine is actually moving around the track, this would be consistent with the diagnosis that the motion state of the locomotive and tender are out of sync. Doesn't suggest a fix, just a little more data.
