I don't have a GG1 and would like to know what GG1 is a good middle of the road engine to buy. Not high end and not low end.
Thanks

Williams Scale or Traditional (Lionel size)
K-line made a nice traditional sized one as well. Williams are hard to beat on price for a scale length GG-1, but they could use some additional weight for pulling longer trains.
If you want command, the MTH ones (both scale and traditional) size ones come up on that auction site for decent prices sometimes, but it pays to do your homework on which version of Proto-2 is in the more affordable ones. The 3v ones can be problematic on the boards.
Bought a nice two motor K Line for about $100.
Lionchief + 2.0
Definitely the LionChief Plus 2.0. Great sounds, die-cast body, trucks and pilots like Post War... BUT twin Can motors, Cruise, and Electro-Couplers.

Does anyone know the part number(s) for the LionChief 2.0 version?
thanks

I have the # 2034010 Green 5 stripe and absolutely love it. The finish, including the color of green, is IMHO fabulous and it runs GREAT! I love the choice of 5 different horn and bell sounds a lot; great addition b/c you are almost sure to find one you like. My only "complaints" are after switching from RPM Level 1 to Level 2, which you can easily hear the difference, its very hard to notice/hear the difference in the switches to the other 6 RPM levels. Probably because it's an electric not a diesel. Also, once the engine is moving there are only 2 crew-talk announcements that continually switch between are we clear ahead and are we clear inbound. You cannot trigger the inbound announcement with the Aux1 key like on older TMCC engines. This is my only Lionchief + 2.0 engine but I'm sure these sound set changes are standard for the new 2.0's. Nothing I can't easily live with. Good Luck! John
