Figured I'd start with asking the tinplate folks. I've hit a wall trying to ID the set that went in this box, it's a high number that I can't find any reference to. Perhaps looking in the wrong places. The box has a small Lit Bros. store tag on it but no date anywhere. The actual # for the box itself is 1075E and is a one piece with flaps. Any help greatly appreciated.

The 1075E number appears in Prewar Set Guide, but not as 7126WC, as a cross reference. It came with 1668E, 1689T or 1689W, 1679, 1680, & 1682, with 8 curve/2 straight track, with 1029 or 1030 transformer. Loco in early Sets was Gunmetal, and Black in later issues. Dates from 1937.
TELEDOC thanks for the help. I do see the 1075E set in a 1937 catalog but it lists the set as not having a whistle, came with switches too. If we can trust the catalog listing. What also confuses me is the WC - which could mean Whistle Control? Which circa 1937 may have been a 48W shed or 1689W tender? Whistle control transformer is a #1030.
The box shipped from Lit Bros. store in Phila Dept 244 which I did find as the 'Toyland Dept' - am leaning towards the box as a store special..that 7000 number shows in no catalogs, Greenberg guides, or web searches from my end. Gotta get my hands on a copy Greenberg set guide one of these days.

John, The catalogs tend to have errors, from actual sets. The Prewar Guide states that the 1075E was the same as Set 1073E/W, but had addition of switches, and a larger layout. The 7000 series of numbers never show in Lionel catalogs, but are used for special Store Sets numbers.
The W does mean whistle with controller, but the C means that at least one car in the set had an auto coupler. This information was provided to me by Bruce Greenberg. I have a set box that also defies identification so far, it is 6712WC so if anyone has any info on that set please let me know.
