I spent some time this past week at Berea tower, in Ohio.

I had about 3 hours to spare before picking someone up at the airport, so I sat in the parking lot of the Berea Union Depot Tavern, and the divergence of the NS and CSA mains.

I was under the impression that this location saw 160 trains a day!  I saw... 3; one was parked.  It was the morning after -35F wind chill and -11F degree temps, and am under the impression that everything was stopped from Chicago to Albany...

Either way, the place is super nice and I can't wait to go back.

PS - Also drove by the 100th Bomb Group.

Thanks,

I don't know how many trains go through there on a normal day....but it's a lot more than three.

I would assume the extremely low volume had to do with the extreme cold of the day that you were there.

I work about 25 miles from where you were spectating.  It got down to -13 and -14 on Monday and Tuesday of this week.  I've lived in Cleveland most of my life and can not recall temperatures that low....yet alone such awful wind chill.

Please stop by again.  I think you'll enjoy it more!

Hi Mario,

Not sure where the 160 trains a day number came from, but the wife and I are regulars there, we often stop and pick up dinner to go, then head out to Berea for diner and to catch any trains. We usually only stay for 20 minutes or so. A few times we haven't seen any, other times 7, 8, or 9 will roll by. We've seen the usual double stack trains, coal, and oil. Surprises we've seen are a Passenger train, lumber, flat cars w/ farm tractors, flats w/ windmill blades and bodies, flats w/ Military vehicles. It's a great up close expierance. especially that east bound CSX track.

We've even had picnics out there.

Enjoy, you'll never know what you'll see.
