Do you sometimes forget what you have. I certainly do!

I'll buy something I see at a good price or because of limited availability for a future project, and then forget I have it. My situation is compounded by the fact that I had a 14X26 from 1992-2003 that had loads of buildings that I dismantled and put into boxes. I've used a lot of them on my 12 feet of modules for our modular group's portable layout and my 6X16 home layout, but I still have 3 large plastic bins filled. Now I'm looking for background buildings for my home layout. I am making my York list and I decided to check what I already have......I discovered that I NEED NOTHING! I have plenty.

Moral of the story....check what you have already stashed.....I'm sure I'm not alone!

These are all "unbuilt" buildings that I own......not counting the 3 bins of already built kits and parts....

I have purchased some things, and when trying to make room to store them, I have found that they are already there!  Seems we all buy too much, lose track of it, and end up buying it again.  Heck, it keeps the economy going.  We all contribute to those BIG DOLLARS of the national economy, the pundits and officials talk about on Sunday morning shows.  We're doing our part!

I purchased a note book from walgreenes called a fat book divided it up into sections for future expansion and started listing all the car kits ,parts , trucks ,etc., and what I paid for them plus shipping, so I can buy sell or trade and keep reasonable track of how much I lost. Cause believe me I aint in it for the money. you could do it on a computer. but there to heavy to cart around, the smart phone thingy seems more of an alternate lifestyle eventual drug addiction leash if I ever saw one. AHHHH.... Remember the good old days when the hardline phone sat on top of the phone book at home where it belonged, and if it rang someone would answer it for their convenience!!!

I try not to do the hoarding thing as I really don't have the room or excess funds. It seems that I find I don't even find the time to work on planned projects.

Don't count on it Al.  Pete will still be flying around the halls! I think his bow spins to give him extra "thrust"!!

I'll give you a copy of my list. You can help me spend some of my money!

Gilly, if you actually need help spending your money, you will not be short of volunteers,

Yes, I do the same thing, and more frequently with age. Just last week, I took back a Legacy cable that I ended up with 2 of during the year I was waiting on my 990 system. Moving last fall hasn't helped as there is still a lot of stuff in plastic containers. Needless to say I already had that same cable in one of those containers.

It also works the other way, I have a very nice, almost new engine cradle that I had just gotten shortly before we moved. I am still looking for that one and haven't a clue as to where it might be. Wasn't in any of the plastic containers with the rest of my train items...

I have seen the hoarding shows on TV. If they are to be believed , hoarding can only be accomplished by buying lots of "Precious Moment" products as well as a host of items from Wallmart. Never have I seen Lionel products , or even MTH products in the TV shows, nor at Wallmart.

What we do is collecting, but if Lionel is sold at some future date is sold at Wallmart, then we will be hoarders.

For now we are safe.

Nothing against Wallmart, could be Target or Crate and Barrel, or even Herrods.

I live by the notion 'if I see it at a god price....buy it!!'.....

So it does make it look like I am a hoarder.

I think it steams from the 1960's..........

When the Woolco stores would run a huge model train sale I'd buy a few things. (I was HO then)I kinda figured that $20 Rivarossi Big Boys were going to be around forever.......

But as you guessed the days of low cost locos and trains  ended.  How I wish I'd bought some of those deals back in the day.

So now if I see it and it's a good price I buy....even if for a future project.....and yes....at times I buy something I have already!
