Due to the chronic shortage of new PS-2 upgrade kits, and the fact that most of the cheap donor market seems to have dried up, I am thinking about cannibalizing one or two early PS-2 SD-90's (from 2001-2002) and transplanting the innards into earlier premier F-3's, trainmasters and such.
I have done several upgrades using 3 volt kits and donors, mostly steam, but never using an earlier 5 volt setup.
Anyone done this successfully?
Any caveats or obvious problems?
I know that available 5 volt sound files will be a limitation. I'll check that out first.
What about compatibilty of lights and such?
I figure the smoke units and couplers will swap over and be fine.
The speakers will have to be swapped over of course, along with the charging ports, volume controls, etc.
Thanks for any thoughts.
