Need help on replacing the trucks on a Lionel 18" aluminum passenger car with skirts. I am able to remove the car ends but cannot slide the shell off because the sides of the trucks cannot clear the skirts on the shell. Anyone know how to do it?

Can you slide the interior out? If so, then you can get at the c-clip to release the truck. Here is an exploded picture of an 18" passenger car from Lionel's web page:
Thanks Allie, I'll give that a try.

Could you take one or more close-up photos of the bottom of the car and the car ends you disassemble the car?
Its been a while since I did mine but I think Allie is right. You might not have to pull the interior out all the way, just enough to access the circlip. Kind of a PITA.

No, I see no reason to do it. Like them as is.
Any advice on re-glueing the passengers in the Lionel Aluminum cars. Can't see how to remove the interior, as was mentioned earlier, the trucks hit the side of the car and prevent the interior from sliding out. Seems like you would also have to remove the trucks from underside of the interior.

Forgot to mention that the Dome car is the culprit. After fiddling, I removed the plate that included the trucks, unhooked the light connection and the plastic interior would then slide easily, UNTIL it either hit the floor of the dome section or the light bar. Can't tell for sure which one. Is there to remove the dome section from the top?
