For the Pittsburgh area guys, I was just looking through some old posts of Patrick's fantastic layout and wondered what his status is?

I recall that he was downsizing houses and the layout was dismantled and much of the scenery items were sold off.

Is he still in the hobby? Building a new layout? Is he still a member of the Independent Hi Railers?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, he had a great layout... its funny how some hobbyist are like fireworks, they emerge with great ideas,  they have fantastic building skills, and produce a really large beautiful layouts... host a great layout party...only to disappear,  never to be heard from again.

Who knows, maybe he will be back?

What was the overall size of Patrick H layout ? I need to know if there is any layout construction videos to get some ideas from on Patrick H layout , especially risers . Thanks, Terry H.  NC

I have a video of it finished but no construction ones.  It's one of the more popular videos on my channel with over 10,000 views.

Thanks Marty I will check the video out , I have watched all I could find on YouTube but yours might be different, I’m doing a Blue Ridge Mountain theme with NW , C&O, Virginian Legacy and DCS engines in my finished basement, I have a 24x24 layout space so I can go with 099 curves on most of it , I would like to run 3 tracks with one leading up to 2nd level maybe 6” I don’t think I have enough room to go to a 3rd level like Patrick so this is why I was wondering about how much space he had to work with.   Again thanks for  responding back , any info is much appreciated.

If anyone knows how I can find any construction videos of Patrick’s layout i would appreciate it , I looked on the digital forum archives but no luck , back in 2013 someone on this forum posted maybe Patrick some construction videos but I could not bring them up I guess out of date since it’s been 10 years .
Anyway great layout, it has inspired me to do what I thought was the impossible a few years ago.

My memory could well be off, but I think he may have used broken pieces of Homasote or a similar material stacked flat side to flat side. Like I said ,it’s been a few years since Patrick posted all his “making of “ photos. I still think this was one of the finest layout I have ever seen especially considering the rather rapid pace in which he built it.

Awesome video & layout! Lots of nice scenery and elevation change. I bet it took quite a while to get to that level of completion, not to mention the overall size! It sure takes a long time or a lot of hands to complete that amount of scenery detail & buildings. I bet it was heart breaking to tear it down! I sure hope Patrick gets back to a new layout, even with some nice backdrops & buildings to start. Good luck Patrick, where ever you are!
