Do you think it is worth the $35 annual dues?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
I am not. It has some benefits as all groups do. Check the archives as you will find a good synopsis to your question.
I joined about a year ago. Definitely one of the more progressive groups out there. Glad I joined, and the club pieces are top-notch!

I'm a member. Well worth the money, IMO.
I;m a member.
Hi Brad, have you looked at our website and the posts on this forum. You get 5 The LION ROARS magazines a year and four INTERCHANGE TRACK sale papers a year plus our website is outstanding.
If you collect we offer a real variety of rolling stock every year.
Plus our conventions can't be beat.
We would love to have you as a member.

I'm a member. It's worth the money.
I am a member and very happy with the organization. I believe they do a great deal of good to keep Lionel visible.
I have been a member of the LCCA since 1979. For me, it is the best club.
I've been with TCA and LOTS and have found LCCA to offer more of what I want.
I have too many hobbies to belong to all these "clubs".
This is the one that steals most my time and $$$$.
I was a member for a good many years. I always enjoyed their conventions cars. I always thought they were nicer than the TCA cars.
I think it is worth the money. I belong to LCCA and TCA. I like the LCCA "The Lion Roars" more than I like the TCA Quarterly. I also like the LCCA convention car offerings and other offerings that Lou comes up with.
The LCCA has nothing in the Northeast. It's mainly a mid-western club. I joined it in the 70's. my number was 6098.
Yes, here in Springfield, MO.
I would never say anything negative about any of the clubs because I think they are all great. But, the LCCA is near and dear to my heart. They are a great bunch of people on the cutting edge of our hobby. If you wont to be more involved then just a rank and file member in good standing they are more then willing to find you a place where you can serve or just be part of the meets.
Great magazine, the Lione Roars, great products, great conventions not to mention a wonderful relationship with our name sake, Lionel.
I have been a member for about twenty years and it has been worth every penny.
Please join , we would love to have you.
Oh yea, come on Eddie have you ever heard of our relationship with the NJ High Railers, besides I'm in the North East.
I belong to the LCCA,TCA,TTOS and of the three they have the best conventions and sell alot of Lionel at their conventions and who else has operated a train ride on the 844 with all of those Yellow Cars.

I'm a member .. nice magazine and different product offerings ..
Somebody asked this once before....I belonged but let it lapse...most "convention"
cars are not protoypical, and for a while it seemed, 3 clubs I once belonged to
followed each other the next year with a convention in the same city. And Lionel is not my specific brand but one I pick up when and IF they have an interesting road name. Another club was very active in the area, but a local member/officer died,
things kind of petered out, and there were problems in the headquarters, so I let it lapse, also. (and, as shown above, I belong to a lot of other clubs, and all want
dues at the first of the year)
I joined last year and found it well worth the money. I've been to 2 LCCA events here in the Dallas area that were great. The open house at TW Trainworx and the Trains at Northpark show. Plus, you can check the asking price on a lot of things on e-bay or other auction sites in their "Inside Track" mailer.

I am a member but have not attended any conventions or events. The publications, website, etc are well worth the membership fee.
I have been a member for a few years, but my membership just expired and I plan to let it lapse.
Overall, it is a good club with good publications.
My main reason for letting my membership expire is the LCCA doesn't produce items that are something I would buy. I run traditional size equipment, and I don't have a large amount of disposable income to spend on trains.
The LCCA produces equipment that is either:
1)scale size
2) expensive
3) scale size and expensive
They have produced some traditional size equipment in the affordable price range, but it is either 1) available only if you attend a convention or 2) available only as an add on if you purchase a more expensive item or set.
Since the LCCA hasn't produced rolling stock in my interest/price range over the couple of years I have been a member, I can't see renewing my membership.
If at some point the LCCA produces affordable traditional size items available to the general club membership, I'll think about joining again.
Love the club, have been a member for many years. The civil war generals produced this year are the best club product ever.
I am a member. Have not been to any conventions yet, but at least they are held at different venues across the US and not just in 1 location. Being on the FAR left coast in the middle of the Pacific, airfare is a killer the farther right you go!
I was a member in the '80s, and recently rejoined when they talked about special run trains in S Gauge. I'll see what happens.
I'm a member
I am a member and think it is the classiest organization out there. The board of directors are the nicest people you ever want to meet. Their website is great. The Lion Roars magazine is much better than the TCA quarterly. We did three joint events with them at the NJ HiRailers and they were our best ones to date. We are currently in the planning stages for another one to be held in April. Sounds like this one will be even more fun than the past ones.
We are in the Northeast Eddie
Most of their cars and locomotives are traditional size. e.g. The Generals, the little Norfolk Southern switcher, the Texas tommies etc etc.
You should join Its well worth it
I've been a member for >30 years. Well worth it.
I have been a member for 2 years.
Been a member for many years, been to approx 15 national conventions all over the country. The activities at the conventions are first class, a great vacation for the family.
I've been a member since the 1980's. Well worth the money. I've gotten a lot of good advice over the years from the magazine.

I'm a member. Their "The Lion Roars" publication, as well as the club's promotion of the hobby is excellent!

I joined and after two years let my membership lapse.
Recently joined. Looking forward to being a member and the multitude of benefits accompanying membership. (Also a member of LRRC and TCA.)
I joined last year and plan to renew my membership.
I have been a member since 1978 and it is worth every penny.

I joined in January 2009.The publications, website, etc are well worth the membership fee. That's how I got interested in the OGR magazine and this outstanding site.

Member since the 80's. 8699
Have been a member since 1982 and happen to live in the northeast. Enough said.

I joined back in the early '90's; it was the first train club I had joined. I am still a member, and feel that the dues are well worth it. "The Lion Roars", the conventions, the club specials, and the increased "outreach" in local co-sponsored events make it an excellent club, IMHO.
