I recently purchased a used Lionel Station Sounds dining car from a OGR Forum Sponsor.  Although I received the car in its' original box, operating instructions were not included ( as noted by seller ).  Thinking that this car operated the same way as my two Lionel sound boxcars,   I placed the dining  car on my layout's track only to find  the  lights working  but there are no sounds.  I operate both in conventional and with TMCC.   What do I need to do to get sounds out of this car?

FYI -  I returned the car to the dealer with detailed/description of my experience.   Today I received the car back from the dealer with a note saying the car worked fine right out of the box for them.  I put the car on my track and powered up ... still no sound.  (  I did check the volume control knob too. )

Thanks in advance for your help!

It would be a whole lot more productive if you posted the model number, so we could point you at the manual, and we could read it together.

This excerpt from a recent Legacy stationsounds version is relevant.

It operates in conventional mode (limited features), with a CAB-1L/CAB1 (more features) and with a CAB2 remote (full functionality)

Also, this note:

While in conventional operation, only track clatter will play. Dialog scenes can not be triggered while operating in conventional

Thanks so much Vernon!  Much appreciate your quick reply.   I think I now have got a grip on how to get the car to work.

Again, you need to #1 take the product number off the box (example a 6-xxxxx, ore newer year based ones 22xxxxx) and go to Lionel Support https://www.lionelsupport.com/ and download the correct manual PDF for your car. #2 you then need to set the TMCC address of the car using the program/run switch on the car and your remote. #3 then you need to address the car and send commands to trigger the dialogs using TMCC or Legacy.
