Looking for some advice on where to order MTH Premier or Rail-King Scale Locomotives and the MTH 50-1036. I know I'm pretty late to the game, what with Mike Wolf retiring and all that that entailed. I currently have a Lionel Legacy setup with a Legacy Burlington F3 ABA, LionMaster Legacy Big boy and Challenger. But I'm looking to get into true O-Scale engines. Are there still some good sources for someone looking to add some MTH products to their layout.

I would think that some of our OGR Forum sponsors may have at least some MTH Premier locomotives left in stock. Why not try Mr. Muffin, Public Delivery Track, Hennings Trains, Train World, Marios, for starters. AND as Rattler suggested the For Sale thread here on the OGR Forum. You might also snag a decent deal at a local train show .. if there are any that are held near where you live.
Also if you are looking for well detailed scale locomotives, 3rd Rail has some fine product.
Thanks guys, i guess my first step is to get acquire the DCS hardware and integrate it into my Legacy setup. Are the new owners of MTH planning on putting out a 2022 catalog?

Ok…got my first MTH Premier locomotive (BNSF ES44AC 25th Anniversary) It is awesome!
Now I’m having trouble finding a MTH DCS 50-1036 setup. Everyone seems to be out of stock on that. Is the 50-1039 setup replacing it?
Sheesh!....Is this a one off or are these sets that highly sought after?
Is there functionality that the 50-1039 WTIU doesn't have that the 50-1036 does? I mean I know the 50-1039 isn't backward compatible with the hand held controller, I guess my question is...is there functionality in the hand held remote that is lacking in the DCS Premium App?

It has been a while since I’ve used the app but I don’t think there’s a difference in terms of features. Some guys prefer the remote. Since MTH (and now Lionel too) can’t seem to get anything made, the dealers are out of inventory and the secondary market is going berserk. Patience!
@gwoods27 Nearly all my stuff is MTH Premier high rail wheels. While they are termed scale there are usually some allowances made. If you are "really" looking for scale, look at the MTH Premier Scale Wheel engines. Newer ones run 2 or 3 rail with a switch flip plus addressing the rollers. These engines typically have fixed pilots, scale couplers and extra details over and above the high wheel versions. If you go that route, you will probably need a solid track and precise track laying and minimum 072 curves. Scale wheels are really temperamental on less than perfect track. I would also avoid older PS2 engines, but only because the level of details available in PS3 versions are significantly better than the older models - but your choice.
I was reading comments by a scale wheel guy and he was taking about 072 as a minimum, but in his world 072 is radius not diameter. 12 foot diameter circles need an awful lot of space.

Well...Fingers Crossed, the MTH Premier ES44AC I just got is rated for O-42, my layout is all Lionel Fastrack O-36. It has the High-Rail Wheels and has had no issues negotiating any of the curves or switches. It some point i'll be expanding the layout to include O-72 loops though.

Yeah, any TIU/Hand Held remote setups are going for a premium right now. Ive got an order in for a 50-1039 (WTIU). Says they'll be in April 30th. We'll see. Id love to hear some more comparisons between the Premium app and the Hand-held remote though.
