I sometimes get an email saying that I was mentioned in a reply.  The "name" is basically my screen ID.  It's in blue not plain black.

How can I do that?  Currently I just type the person's name but I know that doesn't alert the person that I mentioned him/her.

as always, thanks

No shift key needed, just type the @ and then the user name.  For example, @walt rapp.  As you continue to type, it'll narrow down the choices until you see the desired member name.

Click on that name and the link is established.

Interesting; that also works on another train forum based in the UK that I am on. The day is a total loss if one does not learn something!

EDIT: This must be some standard coding as the UK forum does not use Crowdstack.

Yep Walt, I think we are.  I looked again and that's probably what Bob was talking about.  Of course, I don't even mention that as you can't type the @ without the shift key!

I've tried it both ways John. Sometimes the link connection (bold type) goes away if I'm not holding the shift key so that's how I've always done it. As long as the @ is bolded it works.

You can type the @ on a phone or tablet where the shift is not required or the device switches keyboards due to the small screen space.

I'm typing this reply on my phone and I have to scroll to a separate screen to get to the symbols.

I always check the forum on my iPad. The problem I find is if there is a space in the intended recipient’s forum name, I seem to loose the list of possibilities when I type the space (assuming the correct name has not shown up before I type the space).

Its tricky Paul. Spaces or missing dashes - or underscores _ can destroy the best intentions. 🤯🤯🤯

That doesn't seem to be a problem with me.  Here's me typing the space and a couple of letters after it and the proper selection comes up.

Here's where I get if I just type the first name and the space.

I'm glad to see the amount of interest my "simple" question got.  Thanks.

I use a laptop and I HAVE to hold the SHIFT key to get the @ because if I don't it's a "2".

OK, here goes my effort

@RSJB18  - OK, held the shift to get the "@"  then released it and started typing the name and a list came up that got refined the more letters that I typed.

@Ron045 - on a laptop it's hard to hilite it.  I took me 5 or 6 tries to get Ron045 but it did work.  Would you let me know if you got notified that you were mentioned?

As always guys, thanks.

It worked @@walt_rapp.  I tried the @ for this first time.  As soon as hit the @ button, I get a double @@ and have a choice of RyanLosh and T1 Titan.  The moment I type a letter like "w", those names go away and no new names appear.  I'm using an android phone at the moment.

RON045: thanks for letting me know that you got notified.

Even though there were 2 ampersands when you tried, I did get an email notification for the double ampersand doesn't seem to affect the notification.

I usually use my laptop for browse the forum but will on rare, bored occassions use my iPhone, but I don't recall ever doing a reply from it.

as always, thanks - thanks
